The federal Government has ordered the closure of land borders for the governorship and state assembly elections holding on Saturday, March 9.

A statement by the Comptroller-General, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Muhammad Babandede, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, said the closure is with effect from noon on Friday, March 8 to noon on Sunday, March 10.

This, according to the statement, is to restrict movements across the borders during the elections.

“The public is to take note and ensure compliance,” Babandede said.

A similar restriction was imposed on land borders during the presidential and National Assembly election on February 23.
