A Federal High Court in Abuja has agreed to the request by the convener of #RevolutionNow protest, Omoyele Sowore, and his co-defendant, Olawale Bakare for the variation of their bail conditions.

The court had on October 4 granted them bail on certain conditions which they considered stringent.

Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu ruled as part of his bail conditions that Mr Sowore is to produce two sureties with N100 million each and deposit the sum of N50 million in the account of the court as security.

She granted Bakare bail in the sum of N50 million with one surety.

Messrs Sowore and Bakare consequently applied to the court, saying they could not meet the conditions.

Ruling on Monday, however, Justice Ojukwu waived the earlier requirement that one of Sowore’s sureties deposit N50 million as security and reduced the amount attached to Bakare’s bail from N50 million to N20 million.

Justice Ojukwu said all other conditions should remain. She said the decision to restrain the defendants from participating in rallies was in order because of the nature of the case.

She adjourned till November 6 for the commencement of trial.

Sowore and Bakare are charged with seven counts of treasonable felony and other sundry offences instituted against them by the Federal Government.
