An Upper Area Court sitting in Kasuwan Nama, Jos, on Wednesday, sentenced a 30-year-old trader, Frances Bulus, to one year in prison for smashing his neighbour’s window with a stone.

The Judge, Mr Lawal Suleiman, sentenced Bulus after he pleaded guilty to malicious damage and begged the court for leniency.

Suleiman, however, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N5,000.

He also ordered the convict to pay N 25,000 to the complainant, as compensation.

Suleiman said that the judgment would serve as a deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such an act.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Monday Dabit told the court that the case was reported on Oct. 23, at the Nassarawa Gwong Police Station by the complainant, Jeremiah Manbok.

Dabit said that the convict picked up a stone and broke the complainant’s window without any reason or provocation.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 313 of Plateau State code law.
