Court remands three car snatchers in prison

An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun on Friday remanded three car snatchers in prison.

The suspects are Ayobami Adeeso, 26; Busayo Omotayo, 38; and Kazeem Olatunji, 42.

They are facing a five-count charge of conspiracy, intent to commit felony, entering, robbery and receiving stolen vehicles.

However, they pleaded not guilty to the charges and applied for bail orally through their counsel.

Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode declined granting the bail to the suspects and asked the Defence Counsel, Mr Ato Afolaki, to apply formally.

Ijiyode ordered that the suspects be remanded in prison until the consideration of their bail application.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sergeant Sunday Osanyintuyi, had told the court that the suspects committed the offence on April 24 around 6.30 p.m. at Fajuyi Road, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said that the suspects conspired with others now at large to commit felony to wit entering and robbery.

He added that the suspects robbed one Felicia Agboola by carting away her Samsung Galaxy Tablet Handset valued N65,000 and her purse which contained N20,000 cash.

According to the prosecutor, Adeeso and Omotayo also robbed one Adebimpe Agunbiade by dispossessing her of a Rover 620 SI Saloon Car, Wine colour, with Reg No: APP 690 DZ.

Osanyintuyi said that the stolen vehicle valued N700,000; with one Samsung tablet phone, valued N65,000 and N10,000 cash had a total value of N775, 000.

He said that Olatunji on the same day, around 10.00 p.m. at Ofatedo Area, Osogbo, received the same Rover 620 SI Saloon Car, Colour Wine, with Reg No: APP 690 DZ from Adeeso and Omotayo.

According to him, Olatunji, knew fully that the car was stolen by his counterparts and offered them N80,000 as cost price.

Osanyintuyi said that the offences contravened sections 401, 402, 403 (A), 412 and 427 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The case was adjourned till November 15, for hearing.
