An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Tuesday remanded a man, Adeshina Adeyemi, at the Kirikiri Medium Custodial Centre for allegedly defiling a 17-year-old girl (name withheld).
Justice Rahman Oshodi remanded Adeyemi at the custodial centre after he pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of defilement and assault occasioning bodily harm.
Oshodi adjourned the case until July 8 for the commencement of trial.
Earlier, the state counsel, Miss Inumidun Solarin, had urged the court to remand the defendant at the custodial centre pending a bail application and determination of the case.
Solarin informed the court that the prosecution intended to call five witnesses to testify against the defendant and that a Yoruba interpreter would be needed for one of the witnesses.
The defence counsel, Mrs Scholastica Nwogu, did not oppose the submission of the prosecution.
The prosecutor told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offences on August 15, 2019 and February 22, 2024, on Ajowa Street, Iju- Ishaga, Lagos State.
She submitted that the defendant had unlawful carnal knowledge of the alleged survivor and also beat her with a cane, resulting in bodily harm.
According to the prosecution, the alleged offences violate Sections 137 and 173 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
