Court remands 3 men for obstructing police officers from arresting offenders

A Minna Magistrates’ Court on Friday ordered that three applicants who allegedly obstructed the police in the execution of their duty, be remanded in a correctional facility.

The police charged Habibu Usman, Zaharadeen Isah and Yunusa Mohammed with obstructing public servants in discharge of functions and screening of offenders.

Magistrate Binta Rijau  adjourned the matter until November 5 for further mention

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Thomas Peter told the court that the complainant, Mr  Michael Usman, who resides in Shango Area, Minna reported the matter on October 10.

Peter alleged that the defendant armed with knives prevented the police from arresting four hoodlums who robbed the complainant of his cell phone in Tunga Goro community, Minna.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 148 and 169 of the Penal Code law.

When the charges were read to them, they all pleaded not guilty.
