An Oyo State High Court has directed the Department of State Services (DSS) to pay N20 billion to Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo alias Sunday Igboho for unlawfully invading his residence in Ibadan, Oyo State capital on July 1.

Justice Ladiran Akintola awarded the sum on Friday as exemplary and aggravated damages against the secret police.

Sunday Igboho had filed the suit asking the court to grant him N500 billion damages for the invasion.

The judge also declared the invasion illegal and chided the DSS for acting based on what he described as “arbitrary aggression and prejudices” from Sunday Igboho’s agitation for Yoruba Nation.

Apart from the attorney general of the federation, the DSS, and the director of SSS in Oyo State were also listed as respondents.

The agitator who is still in detention in Benin Republic had also sought an order of the court directing the respondents to return all the items seized from the house.

He listed the items to include, N2 million cash, one thousand Euros, travel documents including international passports belonging to him and his family members, gold jewelry and wristwatches, two mobile phones, and other items yet unknown but which were allegedly carted away by the DSS.
