Believer’s Loveworld Incorporated, popularly known as Christ Embassy, Uyo zonal headquarters, has instituted legal action against Akwa Ibom State Government over arrest and detention of one of its pastors, Emmanuel Effiong, and a videographer, Gabriel Ekpa.

The suit marked FAC/UY/FHR/106/2020 was filed at the Federal High Court in Uyo.

The church was accused by the government of clashing with the COVID-19 monitoring team when officials stormed the church on Sunday for allegedly breaching COVID-19 protocols.

Joined in the suit are the State Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Ndueso Ekwere and the Chairman, COVID-19 Guidelines Monitoring Committee, Enobong Uwah.

The church had denied claims that its members attacked officials of the state government.

A statement signed by Pastor Kelvin Atang accused the state government of “acting on falsehood”.

The church said the team assaulted the church’s videographer.
