Veteran Nigerian actor and broadcaster, Sadiq Daba, has disclosed that cancer in his prostate has not spread contrary to the diagnosis by doctors in Nigeria.

Daba, who is undergoing treatment in London, made the disclosure to journalist, Azuka Jebose, in a phone conversation transcribed on Facebook on Saturday.

He left Nigeria for the United Kingdom early on December 3 in the company of his wife, Bolaji Daba, to treat prostate cancer and leukaemia.

The trip was made possible by generous Nigerians who responded to a campaign launched by rights activist, Joe Okei-Odumakin; broadcaster, Soni Irabor, and Jebose.

According to Jebose, Sadiq expressed his gratitude to Nigerians who gave him hope to live again.

“Nigerians saved my life: my family and I remain eternally grateful,” he was quoted as saying.

The Cock Crow at Dawn actor then added that test carried out by doctors in the UK did not find spread of cancer.

“All the test results for my prostate cancer did not find spread. I was told in Nigeria that it had spread to other organs of my body. But all tests here by specialists came back negative, with regards to the spread. It can be treated with drugs and injections,” he said.

He added that his leukaemia is in remission and there was no need for surgery as advised by Nigerian doctors.

Hear him: “Also, the doctors, after tests for leukaemia, concluded that it is in remission. The specialists placed me on drugs to help with the remission. I will see an oncologist on Monday; no need for an operation (surgery) to open me up. In Nigeria, I was told I needed surgery.”

He, however, added that the treatment he is undergoing in London is expensive and would not have been possible without his benefactors.

“These treatments are very expensive sha. Where I for get the money? Na God send you, Soni Irabor, Dr Joe Okei-Odumakin and compassionate Nigerians to me o,” he continued

The actor added that he will be in London “for another two weeks for observation and then head home to recuperate.”
