Businessman docked over alleged N1.2m fraud

The Police on Monday, arraigned a 40-year-old businessman, Chidi Amakor, in a Wuse Zone 2 Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly defrauding one  Ezechima Okoli of N1.2million.

The defendant of City College Road, Nasarawa State, is facing a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating.

The prosecutor, Mr Davou Yakubu, told the court that the defendant committed the offences in September 2013.

Yakubu said that the defendant collected the money from the complainant under the pretext that he was going to supply him a Toyota Hilux van imported from Germany.

He said all efforts to either get the promised van or a refund proved abortive.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Ahmed Ubangari, admitted the defendant to bail in the N500,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until May 8 for hearing.
