Fresh $321m Abacha loot to be repatriated to Nigeria

The Federal Government has had an understanding with the Island of Jersey and the United States over the repatriation of another $321million looted by former military ruler, Sani Abacha.

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday ratified the repatriation agreement which will be signed next week.

Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, told journalists after the FEC that the parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding to have the money spent on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the 2nd Niger Bridge and the Kaduna-Kano Expressway.

Mr Malami added that a separate €6.8 million looted by former Delta State Governor, James Ibori, would also be repatriated. He, however, noted that negotiations had not begun on the Ibori loot.

He also said talks would soon start on looted assets linked to a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

Malami said that no figure had been placed on Mrs Alison-Madueke’s assets.
