British boxing champion to become bouncer in Nigeria

Former British heavyweight boxing champion, Danny Williams, claims he is set to begin bodyguard work in Nigeria.

Williams, 45, is a two-time British and Commonwealth champion.

He is famous for scoring an upset knockout victory against Mike Tyson in 2004, which earned him a mandatory WBC heavyweight title opportunity.

In the same year, he challenged then-reigning champion Vitali Klitschko but was stopped in eight rounds.

Williams recently quit the sports after defeat to a former Commonwealth lightweight champion, Lee McAllister.

According to the 45-year-old, his next career move is to become a bodyguard in Nigeria.

“I had some really good moments, and some really bad moments,” he pointed out.

“My career has been really up and down. Things like beating Mark Potter and becoming the only fighter in the history of boxing to win a fight with a dislocated shoulder, that cannot be taken away from me. Nor can being second only to Henry Cooper in (British) title defences.

“I am going to do some bodyguard work in Nigeria. It is a very risky job as I will have a gun with me – I have a gun licence. I am definitely, totally finished with boxing.”
