Premier League suspended because of coronavirus

Managers have voted to suspend all elite football in England until at least April 3 over the spread of coronavirus.

The suspension affects all Premier League games, EFL fixtures and matches in the Emirates FA Cup, Women’s Super League and Women’s Championship along with academy and youth-team matches.

The Premier League said it aims to reschedule the displaced fixtures “when it is safe to do so.”

“This action, which will be kept under constant review, has been taken due to the increasing numbers of clubs taking steps to isolate their players and staff over Covid-19,” The Football Association said in a statement on Friday.

The FA has also suspended England’s games against Italy on March 27 and Denmark on March 31.

“We will continue to monitor all government advice with the situation under constant review, with the priority being the health and well-being of all. Further updates will follow in due course,” it said.
