Ministerial nominee Abbas Balarabe slumped on Wednesday during screening at the Senate.

The Kaduna State nominee had spoken for several minutes during his screening and was about to take questions from lawmakers when he suddenly passed out.

Several legislators immediately rushed to his aid.

He was the second nominee to be screened.

The Senate, on the instruction of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, went into a closed-door session as attempts to revive him continued.

Balarabe was nominated as a replacement for the former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai.

The former Kaduna governor was rejected over security concerns.

Others who were rejected were the former managing director of Nexim Bank Stella Okotete (from Delta State) and Abubakar Danlandi (from Taraba State).

A total of 45 persons out of 48 were confirmed for ministerial positions.

Balarabe’s name was conveyed in a letter read by Akpabio at the plenary on Tuesday.

Others whose names were included were Jamila Ibrahim and Ayodele Olawande as minister of youths and minister of state for youths respectively.

Balarabe, a former secretary to Kaduna State Government, was in April appointed to lead a 65-man transition committee ahead of the swearing-in of Uba Sani now governor of Kaduna State.
