BREAKING: Gunshots as protesting Shiites return to Abuja streets

Police Shiite clash in Abuja

Policemen and operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) have taken over Wuse 2, Abuja to disperse protesting members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN).

The security operatives sent traders and passers-by scampering on Tuesday when they opened fire on the protesters who returned to the streets 24 hours after a bloody clash with the police.

The operatives ransacked the popular Banex Plaza, Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse 2, in search of the Shiites who had gathered at the area.

The clash between the group and the police on Monday had resulted in several deaths, some of whom were a Channels TV reporter and a deputy commissioner of police.

The IMN members are demanding the release of their leader, Ibrahim Zakzaky, and his wife, Zeenah, who have been in detention since 2015.
