Coronavirus spreads to Akwa-Ibom as number in Nigeria rises to 174

Akwa-Ibom State has recorded five new cases of the coronavirus, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said on Wednesday.

“Twenty-three new cases of #COVID19 have been reported in Nigeria; 9 in Lagos, 7 in the FCT, 5 in Akwa Ibom, 1 in Kaduna and 1 in Bauchi State,” the agency said in a tweet.

“As of 08:00 pm 1st April there are 174 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria. Nine have been discharged with two deaths.”

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, had on Tuesday banned all forms of public gathering, including burials and weddings, as a preventive measure against the novel coronavirus.

The government also barred people from entering the state through the land, air and water.
