BREAKING: Buhari suspends Onnoghen, swears in Mohammed as acting CJN

President Muhammadu Buhari has suspended the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen.

Mr Buhari, in quick succession on Friday, swore in Justice Tanko Mohammed at the Council Chambers, Presidential Villa, Abuja, in acting capacity.

Mr Mohammed, from Bauchi State, is the most senior justice of the Supreme Court.

The President said the suspension followed the order of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) directing him to suspend Mr Onnoghen, pending the completion of his trial.
