Katsina State Government has said the abducted students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara have been freed.

Special adviser to the governor on security Ibrahim Kastina confirmed the release of the students to the news media.

“Alhamdulillah. The boys have been rescued and are now at Tsafe, Zamfara State. But, we shall be moving them to Kankara tomorrow (Friday),” he said.

Governor Aminu Masari had on Wednesday revealed the schoolboys were being held in a forest in Zamfara.

Masari said on Thursday night that the boys were at Tsafe, Zamfara State, and would be transported to Kankara on Friday.

According to him, the release of the schoolboys was facilitated by the leadership of MACABAN/Miyetti Allah.

Presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad shared a picture on Twitter, saying it was taken when Masari called President Muhammadu Buhari to inform him of the rescue.

A tweet from the handle of chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission Abike Dabiri-Erewa had earlier in the day announced the release of the boys. But Mrs Dabiri-Erewa distanced herself from it.
