Lagos State Police Command on Thursday deployed policemen to Gengere area of Mile 12 to restore peace following clashes between warring groups.

Located in Kosofe Local Government Area, Mile 12 has witnessed violent clashes since Tuesday, which have resulted in the destruction of property.

Confirming the deployment of policemen to the area, Lagos police spokesman Olumuyiwa Adejobi tweeted: “Normalcy has been restored to Gengere, Mile 12 area of Lagos State following a fight that broke out between some hoodlums in the area. The command will give details soon.”

Lagos commissioner of police Hakeem Odumosu had on Tuesday ordered the arrest of 13 persons allegedly involved in the crisis that rocked Gengere community.

On April 30, some persons reportedly attacked commander of the security committee in the community Alidu Mohammed and set ablaze his two cars, one of his houses, and other property in the area.

One person allegedly died as a result of the incident.

According to the police, the crisis started over the allegation that Mohammed made blasphemous comments against Prophet Muhammad.
