Lupita Nyong’o confirms screen adaptation of Chimamanda’s Americanah

Black Panther actress, Lupita Nyong’o, has said that Chimamanda Adichie’s acclaimed novel, Americanah, will be adapted on screen.

Nyong’o purchased the film rights to Americanah in 2014 after the book was published in 2013.

She immediately collaborated with fellow Black Panther’s cast mate, Dania Gurira, to write the screenplay.

The Kenyan actress told Vogue magazine that fans should expect the adaptation soon.

She said: “My dream project is finally getting to make Americanah which is looking very, very likely.

“It’s going to happen in the near future and it’s been a long time in the making and I’m very, very ripe and ready to get into that for sure.”

In 2018, Nyong’o and Gurira visited Nigeria for research on the screen project which they said would be made into a mini-series as against suggestions of a feature film.
