Betta Edu clinches APC national women leader position despite pro #EndSARS tweets

Commissioner for health in Cross River Betta Edu has emerged the youngest female to become the national women leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

She was elected at the party’s national convention held on Saturday, scoring 2,662 votes to defeat her closest rival, Helen Boco, who polled 117.

Edu made headlines recently when she begged the APC, declared her loyalty to President Muhammadu Buhari and denounced her pro #EndSARS tweets. According to her, she supported the movement at the time because she had also been a victim of police brutality. She added that she did not support the violence that ensued.

Reacting to her victory at the polls, Edu thanked delegates from all the states, party leaders from Cross River, especially Governor Ben Ayade for the support and confidence in her.

She promised to bring women together and ensure their unity as they trudge on to the next level.

Edu was born on 27 October 1986. She hails from Ibalebo village in Abi local government Area, Cross River State.

She completed her secondary education at Federal Government Girls College, Calabar, and is a graduate of medicine and surgery from the University of Calabar. Edu is a Harvard certified, Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health, United Kingdom.
