Bayelsa assembly grants Diri’s request for N2.9bn car loan

Bayelsa State House of Assembly has sanctioned a request from Governor Douye Diri to obtain a loan of N2.9 billion for official vehicles.

The loan will be used “to buy operational vehicles for the governor, deputy governor, and other top government functionaries.”

House leader, Monday Bubou-Obolo, moved the motion on Tuesday during plenary before it was approved.

Bubou-Obolo, the immediate past speaker of the assembly, said the proposed loan would be repaid in 36 months.

The lawmakers unanimously gave the loan their support.

The assembly also called on the state Ministry of Health and relevant agencies to create measures to prevent a possible outbreak of coronavirus in the state.

It urged the new administration to invest more on enlightenment campaigns on the pandemic, especially in the different dialects, in order to keep the public informed.
