The police in Bauchi State have arrested a 25-year-old man, Maikudi Muhammed, after he was found with a human head which he claimed belonged to his dead son.

Muhammed, who lives in Galambi village of Missau Local Government Area, said he exhumed his son’s body after he was buried in a village in the state, police said.

He reportedly told the police that he had to go back to the grave yard on the night his deceased son was buried to exhumed his body and cut off the head for sale.

The suspect, whose name Maikudi means ‘rich man’ in Hausa, was on his way to sell the head to his buyer in Azare town when the police intercepted him last Thursday.

A witness, Aliyu Babayo, who was there when the police was making the arrest, said the man looked more of a stranger than an indigene of the local government area which he claimed to be.

“He is not an indigene of Missau; nobody knows his identity. We understand he is on transit that is all we know about the suspect,” the witness said.

The Bauchi State Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, a Superintendent, said “On Thursday 7, 2016 at about 3pm, following an intelligence report (that one) Maikudi Mohammed, male and 25 years of Galambi village was arrested with suspected Human head wrapped inside a cloth by police detectives in Missau Town”.

The police spokesperson said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, worked with an accomplice, Damina Mohammed, 26, of the same address.

Mohammed said the principal suspect confessed that the child was his son who died.

He said the case was under investigation after which suspects would be charged to court for prosecution.
