Singer and actor Olubankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, has lost the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency election to Labour Party’s Thaddeus Attah.

The 41-year-old polled 18,666 votes under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), losing to Attah of the Labour Party who got 24,075 votes.

Babajide Obanikoro of the All Progressives Congress (APC) came third with 16,901 votes.

There was, however, pandemonium between party agents and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officers over the authenticity of the result, even before it was declared by the presiding officer.

Agents of the APC and PDP refused to accept the announcement of results unless their complaints were addressed.

Banky W had earlier expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday, he said “At the end of the day, for me, it is all about the grace of God and the will of the people; and I think that we have those two things. So, I am confident that I will win this time.

“We have learnt some lessons from the last election; so, we started our queue control a lot earlier. Myself and a few friends got together and got canopies and chairs because that was the biggest polling unit in Eti-Osa.”

This is the second time Banky W will contest for the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency seat.

He contested in 2019 under the Modern Democratic Party (MDP) but lost to APC’s Obanikoro who came third in Saturday’s election.
