Ballot box snatchers shouldn’t pay with life, Sani replies Buhari

Senator Shehu Sani

Senator Shehu Sani has advised that those who attempt to snatch or snatched ballot boxes should be arrested and prosecuted in an apparent response to President Muhammadu Buhari’s speech of having such persons pay with their lives.

Mr Buhari had said on Monday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus meeting in Abuja that he had instructed the police and military “to be ruthless” adding that “anybody who thinks he has enough influence in his locality to lead a body of thugs to snatch ballot boxes or disturbs the voting system will do so at the expense of his own life.”

Sani, however, in a tweet on Monday, wrote that using lighter expressions would prevent jungle justice.

“Those who attempt to snatch or snatched Ballot Boxes should be arrested and brought to book; This is a better expression to avoid jungle justice or Licence for disorder by thugs who may take the law into their hands,” Sani wrote.

The senator represents Kaduna Central senatorial district in the National Assembly.

Sani announced his departure from the APC in October 2018 to join the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
