Former FCT minister, Bala Mohammed, wins Bauchi supplementary election

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed

Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bala Mohammed, has won the supplementary election in Bauchi State.

Returning officer, Prof. Kyari Mohammed, declared the former Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister winner on Sunday.

Prof Mohammed said the PDP candidate polled 6,376 votes while incumbent governor, Muhammed Abubakar, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) scored 5,117 votes.

The returning officer, however, said he was in no position to make a return because the case involving the Tafawa Balewa LGA was still in court.

The Federal High Court in Abuja had on March 19 stopped the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from proceeding with the collation, conclusion and announcement of the result of the governorship election in the state held on March 9, 2019.

In the election which was declared inconclusive, Mohammed polled 469,512 votes while Abubakar got 465,453 votes.
