Baby found hanging on barbed wire fence in Anambra

A newborn baby girl has been rescued from a barbed wire fence in Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The baby girl was alleged to have been thrown from the first floor of a female hostel of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko.

It was learnt that the baby was delivered with the help of its mother’s boyfriend.

A doctor at the hospital where the baby was taken, Chinonso Nwosu, said the child was injured in the leg but that she was responding to treatment.

“The mother ran away after the incident but was later arrested. She is currently breastfeeding the baby after she was brought to the hospital in handcuffs,” Nwosu said.

Spokesman for the polytechnic, Obini Onuchukwu, said the institution is yet to confirm if the suspect and her accomplices were students of the school as the incident happened in a private hostel.

Anambra police spokesman, Haruna Mohammed, said the police are investigating the case.
