Atiku’s son to wed Ribadu’s only daughter

Aliyu Abubakar Atiku and Fatima Ribadu

Aliyu Abubakar Atiku, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will on October 3 marry Fatima Ribadu the daughter of the pioneer chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Nuhu Ribadu.

The wedding set to hold in Abuja will be a low-key ceremony, according to the invitation sent out by Ribadu.

Atiku recently returned from a nine-month trip to Dubai for the wedding.

The lovebirds will be joined in holy matrimony despite their parents being political foes.

Atiku and Ribadu are Adamawa State indigenes and served at the same time during the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The rift between them began after Ribadu acted on the request by the US Federal Bureau of Investigations to the EFCC to help it investigate the relationship between Atiku and Congressman Thomas Jefferson who was then accused of bribery.

A member of Ribadu’s family who pleaded anonymity told Premium Times that Ribadu did not attempt to stop the marriage.

“The girl is very important to him as his only daughter but that notwithstanding he understands that marriage is a personal decision,” the source said.

As a sign that their relationship was beginning to smoothen, Atiku attended the wedding of Ribadu’s two sons in Abuja in January.

“It is about their lives. People make choices and Atiku brought up his children to be independent minded, to have a mind of their own,” Atiku’s spokesman Paul Ibe told the online newspaper.

“They are educated, they are exposed. They share in the values of their father which include respect for people despite their religion, their customs or where they come from.”
