Another 27 migrants in court over Malta riots

Twenty seven migrants who participated in a riot at their detention centre in Malta were on Wednesday charged to court.

The migrants from Sudan, Chad, Somalia, Eritrea and the Ivory Coast, aged between 16 and 55 years, were charged with failing to obey legitimate police orders and breach of peace.

All, except one, pleaded guilty, prison authorities said.

The recent arrest brings to 107, the total number of migrants so far arraigned over the riot.

Earlier, another 80 migrants, including eight ring leaders, were charged over the riot at the centre, during which cars were set ablaze and offices ransacked.

No bail request however, has been made on behalf of the suspects.
