Senate President Godswill Akpabio has congratulated Eze Anaba, editor of Vanguard Newspapers, on his re-election as president of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE).
In a message signed by his media adviser, Eseme Eyiboh, Senator Akpabio described Mr Anaba’s re-election as a vote of confidence. He highlighted the latter’s professionalism and dedication to journalism ethics, noting it has earned him respect from colleagues and the Nigerian public.
Akpabio praised Anaba’s leadership, saying, “Mr. Eze Anaba is a square peg in a square hole.”
The Senate president assured that the Senate and the National Assembly would continue to promote good governance through free speech. He expressed readiness to collaborate with the NGE to ensure smooth dissemination of information across the country.
He urged the guild to “work with other stakeholders to rid the profession of quacks and fake news journalists, who constitute a nuisance to the public stressing that journalism is a noble profession, which must be free from peddlers.”
Akpabio also extended his best wishes to other elected NGE officers. “On behalf of my family, the 10th Senate and indeed the National Assembly, I wish to heartily congratulate Mr. Eze Anaba and the newly elected executive of the NGE. I wish you all a successful tenure,” he said.
