Akinwumi Adesina kisses mum’s coffin at funeral service

President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Dr Akinwumi Adesina on Saturday kissed his mother’s coffin during a funeral service held for her.

Adesina’s mother, Eunice Adesina, died on December 22, 2022.

Her funeral service was held at the Cathedral Church of St. Matthew Ojowo, Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State on Saturday, February 11 under the supervision of Primate of the Church of Nigeria Dr Henry Ndukuba.

In his sermon, Ndukuba urged the congregation to embrace righteousness and seek forgiveness for their sins, adding that it was only when these are done that they can be saved.

He advised the children to emulate the life of the deceased, whom he described as a virtuous woman who worked in the vineyard of the Lord.

An emotional Adesina was joined by family members to honour their mother during the funeral service.

The AfDB president even kissed the coffin bearing his mother’s corpse.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, President Umaro Sissoco of Guinea Bissau, Dr. Nwugulu Nchemba from Tanzania, Aurelian Agbeno from Benin Republic and Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun were among the eminent personalities at the funeral service.

Madam Adesina’s remains were buried in the church premises after the dust-to-dust rites.

A reception was held later in the day with comedian Koffi as a compere. Afrojuju musician Sir Shina Peters and Shuga Band entertained guests at the reception.

Guests who attended included Aliko Dangote, Femi Otedola, Titi Atiku Abubakar, Gbenga Daniel, Dr Kayode Fayemi, Sen. Ibikunle Amosu, Olusegun Osoba, Emir of Bichi, Alhaji Nasir Ado Bayero, Oba Adedokun Abolarin, Prof. Tale Omole and Dr. Oba Otudeko.
