Afrobeats lacks substance – Burna Boy

Singer Burna Boy has claimed that the Afrobeats genre has no substance.

The Grammy Award winner stated this during an Apple Music interview with Zane Lowe which was released on Tuesday, stating that the genre has no substance and is just about a “great time”.

“Afrobeats as people call it is mostly about nothing, literally nothing. There’s no substance to it. Nobody is talking about anything. It’s just a great time, it’s an amazing time,” he said.

Burna Boy shared the tracklist for his upcoming album, I Told Them, featuring only one Nigerian singer Seyi Vibez.

The 32-year-old has been nominated six times for the Grammy Awards, winning one in 2021 for Best Global Music Album with his project Twice As Tall.
