Acting CJN Mohammed swears in election tribunal members

The Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Tanko Mohammed, has sworn in members of the general election tribunals.

The tribunals comprise 250 members.

Mr Mohammed swore them in in a ceremony in Abuja on Saturday.

The acting CJN urged the members of the election tribunals to discharge their duties with integrity and the fear of God.

The swearing-in ceremony comes barely 24 hours after President Muhammadu Buhari suspended Walter Onnoghen as the Chief Justice of Nigeria and swore-in Mohammed in acting capacity.

The suspension, Mr Buhari said, was based on the request of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, pending the completion of Mr Onnoghen’s trial.

Onnoghen is being tried over allegations of non-disclosure of assets.

Onnoghen had before his suspension said he would oversee the swearing-in ceremony on Saturday.
