A 58-year-old food seller has been electrocuted at her shop in Ikotun, a Lagos suburb in Igando/Ikotun Local Council Development Area, early Monday.

Florence Imoh was discovered by his neighbours lying lifeless in front of her shop located at 12 Shosanya Street, Ijegun road, Ikotun.

One of her neighbours, Mercy Alomona, said she saw Mrs Imoh clinging to her shop’s metal gates around 6:30 am.

Residents learnt that an electric wire was resting on the metallic sides of her shop’s roof, consequently transmitting current to other metallic objects in the shop.

“Mama Chikodi as Imoh was fondly addressed, was trying to open the iron gate of her shop without noticing the contact and got electrocuted,’’ Mrs Alomona said.

District Police Officer (DPO), Isheri/Osun Police Station, Rafiu Akinlade, said the body of Cross River State-born woman had been taken to Isolo General Hospital mortuary.

“We have been informed and I have called Ikeja Electric about the development, and they have switched off the electricity in the area; this is to allow us evacuate Imoh’s body,” Mr Akinlade said.

The DPO said the incident would have been prevented if the building had an insulator protector.

“When it rains, it is advisable to avoid touching iron or metal object,’’ he said.
