5 things you should not expect at Buhari’s daughter’s wedding

Fatima, the second child from President Muhammadu Buhari’s first marriage, is getting married today to former Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, Gimba Kumo.

The 43-year-old will be handed over to her 56-year-old at her father’s home in Daura, Katsina State in the presence of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and other eminent personalities.

A high profile wedding no doubt, Buhari’s faith, austere nature and the need to keep up appearance in the face of Nigeria’s economic recession will however deprive the wedding of the following

  1. Alcohol

Alcohol or any form of intoxicant is a no-no. The bride and groom are practising Muslims and since alcohol is forbidden in Islam, guests will not be able to indulge.

  1. Aso ebi

Not surprisingly, aso ebi or any form of jointly chosen attire should not be expected at the wedding. Guests will have to wear whatever they want to wear, provided it’s befitting of the ceremony.

  1. Spraying of money

An anti-corruption crusader like Buhari will not find it funny if anyone sprays money at his daughter’s wedding. Nothing will scream corruption louder than a group of people flaunting their wealth by spraying it around.

  1. Expensive gifts

Unlike the wedding of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s daughter in 2014 where the bride and groom were reportedly gifted with luxurious cars and guests took iPhones home as souvenirs, this wedding will have none of that. In fact, any form of extravagance will attract the attention of the EFCC.

  1. Night party

Although the ceremony has been slated for 2pm, there will not be any night party at this event. Buhari is not an owambe person.
