5 things to know about Oliseh’s replacement at Fortuna

Dutch club, Fortuna Sittard, have moved swiftly to replace Sunday Oliseh with Claudio Braga.

The Nigerian was relieved of his duties on Wednesday after his relationship with the club’s hierarchy seemingly broke down.

Here are five things we know about his successor.

1 – He is Portuguese

Braga was born in the Portuguese capital and largest city, Lisbon. He follows the line of popular compatriots like Jose Mourinho,  Andres Villas-Boas and Carlos Carvalhal.

2 – Agemate with Oliseh

While they are from different parts of the globe, Oliseh and his successor were born same year – 1974. Although, the Nigerian, born in September, is two months older.

3 – FIFA Pro licensed

Similar to Oliseh, Braga is totally qualified to work in any part of the world, having completed his FIFA Pro license course. “This gives him the correct papers to be allowed to be in front of the group with a professional football organization,” the club revealed on Wednesday.

4 – Well-equipped

Braga has a rich vein of experience, perhaps a notch above his predecessor. He ventured into management in 2001 as Youth Coach of Dutch side, SBV Excelsior. After that, he’s worked with 10 different sides, predominately as assistant manager.

5 – Worked with Oliseh at Sittard

Oliseh may feel hard done by Braga’s decision to take up his role as the Portuguese was part of his closest allies. He was influential in the Nigerian’s fine run, having worked as Head of the youth department since May last year.
