3 ways the NPFL is better than Chinese Super League

NPFL

The mega-rich Chinese Super League (CSL) is slowly turning into the new destination for some of the world’s best talents.

As many as seven Nigerian players have also joined the trend by moving to the Asian nation.

However, aside the astronomical wages on offer, it is a fact that the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) is by far superior.

Here are three ways.

  1. Number of teams

The NPFL – just like many other top leagues in the world – parades 20 teams every season. This isn’t the case with the CSL which has just 16 clubs.

  1. Competitiveness

The CSL has been dominated by just one team since its inception 13 years. Guangzhou Evergrande have won almost half of the title unlike the NPFL title which has had 19 different winners in 48 years.

  1. Continental competitions

The only reward for finishing in the top three in China is a place in the AFC Champions League. This is the only continental showpiece competed for in China. Whereas four teams from Nigeria qualify for the CAF Champions League or Confederation Cup annually.
