At least 15 persons were injured on Monday following an auto crash involving two commercial vehicles along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.

The accident, which occurred at Barde Community, in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State, about 70 kilometres to Abuja, involved a Plateau Riders Sharon commercial vehicle with registration number LGT 440 XA, which was coming from Jabi in Abuja and an OPEL vehicle with registration number ER 720 ABJ coming from Jos.

Although details of the crash were still sketchy as at the time of filing this report, it was learnt that the accident was caused by one of the vehicles which was trying to avoid a pothole.

Some of the passengers sustained serious injuries in their hands and legs, while others had bleeding noses.

The driver of the Plateau Riders commercial vehicle, Mohammed Mukaila, said that the driver coming from the opposite direction was avoiding a pothole, even while on a high speed.

“We were coming from Abuja; just after the checkpoint, the driver of the OPEL coming from Jos left his lane and decided to come to my lane.

“He was struggling with the steering and it was obvious that he was on speed and trying to avoid a pothole.

“We thank God that nobody died, but people were seriously injured,” he explained.
