10 striking similarities between Adeboye and Oyedepo

Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and Bishop David Olaniyi Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church World Wide (also known as Winners’ Chapel) are two of the most influential clergymen in Africa.

Beyond commanding myriad of followers, the two sit atop religious empires worth billions of naira.

Below are 10 striking similarities between the two men which some of their church members may not even know.

    1. They both met while in Ilorin, Kwara State, where Pastor Adeboye and Bishop Oyedepo actually started their ministries.
    2. They both control two of the largest and fastest growing churches in Nigeria. The churches have presence outside the country too.
    3. They both run private universities; The Redeemer University and Covenant University, and both of them are Pro-chancellors of their respective institutions.
    4. Both schools are in Ogun State, believed to have the highest number of universities in Nigeria.
    5. They both have offshoot of their ivory towers around their respective home towns. Landmark University is located in Omu-Aran, home town of Oyedepo, while Adeboye’s Redeemer’s University is located on Gbongan-Oshogbo Road, Ede, near Ifewara.
    6. Their respective brothers occupy key positions in their vast empires. Retired Major General Akinsola Adeboye, younger brother of Pastor Adeboye is the chief security officer (CSO) of the Redeemed Christian Church of God-owned camp, popularly called Redemption Camp. In a similar dimension, Oyedepo’s younger brother, Gideon, is the CSO of Canaanland. He is solely responsible for the security of the educational arm.
    7. They were both were federal public servants before resigning to concentrate on missionary work. Adeboye was a mathematics lecturer at the University of Lagos and Ilorin while Oyedepo used to work at the Federal Ministry of Housing Corporation in Ilorin, Kwara State.
    8. They belong to the elite group of pastors travelling by private jets in Nigeria. Adeboye acquired his aircraft years after Oyedepo acquired one with number D6640.
    9. They both conduct massive conventions in Ogun State. Adeboye leads worship along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and Oyedepo in Ota.
    10. Their children are already active in their vineyards. Adeboye has Pastors Adeolu Adeboye, Dare Adeboye and Leke Adeboye already functioning in RCCG as ministers, while Oyedepo has Pastors David Oyedepo (Jnr.) and Isaac Oyedepo as resident pastor of Faith Tabernacle, Canaanland and regional head, South Africa respectively.

    Bonus: Their wives – Foluke Adeboye and Faith Oyedepo – are called mummy (or mama) by their church members.
