All you need to know about Davido’s new girl, Lola Rae

Nigerian pop star, Davido, recently signed female artiste, Lola Rae, to his record label, Davido Music Worldwide, which already houses musical artistes like Danagog, Mayorkun, Dremo, and Dammy Krane.

The ‘Skelewu’ singer’s new recruit is relatively unknown to the average Nigerian music fan.

Lola Rae’s real names are Rachel Akosua Funmilola Garton

Birth place

She was born on January 20, 1991 in Obalende, Lagos State to a British father and Ghanaian mother.

She is a Nigerian-born British-Ghanaian recording artiste.

Education

She had her primary and secondary school education at St. Saviours School, Ikoyi and Lekki British International School, Lagos respectively. She left Nigeria for England at the age of 15 to further her university education at Central Saint Martins where she studied fashion textiles.

Career so far

She started as a dancer as a member of the dance group, Mystikal. In 2010, along other Mystikal members, she auditioned for British Got Talent, where she sang. Lola Rae turned down an invitation from Mystikal to X Factor in order to focus on a solo career.

Debut single

She released her debut single titled ‘Watch My Ting Go’ in 2012. Since then, she has released ‘High’ featuring Bridge, ‘Fimile’ featuring Iyanya, and ‘She Knows He Knows’ among others. Before her move to Davido Music Worldwide, she featured on a promotional single titled ‘Africa Rising’, with her label boss, Davido, Tiwa Savage, Sarkodie, Diamond Plantnumz and Mi Casa. The 25-year-old ‘One Time’ singer recently released a single titled ‘Biko’ featuring Davido.
