Yoruba actor, Ajigijaga, dies at 60

AjigijagaPopular Yoruba actor, Mufutau Sanni Adio, otherwise known as Ajigijaga, is dead.

He was aged 60.

Early reports indicate he died on Friday at his residence at Oko-Oba, Agege, Lagos, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident two weeks ago.

His death was confirmed by fellow actor and President of The Golden Movie Ambassadors (TGMA), Saidi Balogun.

“Ajigijaga’s death is a big loss to the movie industry, especially to members of The Golden Movie Ambassadors. Just last week, he called me to explain why he couldn’t attend our last monthly meeting.

“I can recall that he mentioned that his absence was due to injuries he sustained in a motor-bike accident about two weeks ago. I was shocked this morning to get a call from one of his children that he has passed on.

“We shall miss his useful contributions to discussions on how to move the movie industry forward and instil discipline and professionalism in our members. May his soul rest in peace,” Balogun told E24-7 Magazine.

Born on July 15, 1955 in Ogun State, the man also known as Broken Bottle was a staff of P&T (now NITEL) from where he switched to acting in 1981.

He got married to Taiwo Hassan, then 26, on November 24, 2012.

Speaking after his wedding, the theatre activist said: “The issue of age is nothing here. What we have in common and that is abounding is love. Though I have other children from my former wife whom I did not actually marry legally, my new wife means the whole world to me. This is my first time of getting married in life. I love her and she loves me, that is all that counts. It`s about love, not age.”
