Workers’ verification: Kogi governor sacks screening committee chairman

Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has sacked the Chairman of the Civil Servant Screening Committee, General Paul Okutimo (rtd), following alleged high handedness and refusal to comply with the terms of reference as laid out by the government.

Bello has appointed Dr Jerry Agbaje as new chairman.

The governor, who held a meeting with La‎bour at Government House in Lokoja on Friday evening, said the recent preliminary report which was released by the former military officer was not approved by him.

He sympathised with those affected by the purported lists which he said has caused discomfort for many families in the state.

According to the governor, the screening was not meant to witch hunt anybody but to sanitise the entire system.

Bello charged the new chairman, Agbaje, to live up to the expectations of the people and ensure the exercise is completed within two weeks.

Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state, Onu Edoka, led his team to the meeting.
