Shola Ogudu, the mother of Wizkid’s first son Boluwatife Balogun, has defended her son after a critic on X claimed his management was not doing enough to push his music career.

The social media user had questioned the streaming numbers from the teenager’s first project, insisting that the manager “could have done a better job” in building a solid fanbase for the budding artiste.

Reacting, Oluwanishola, popularly called Shola, explained that her son, known musically as Champz, is only 14 and must balance his education with his passion for music.

“Big love to everyone showing support, BUT comparisons aren’t needed. Champz is 14, balancing academics and his passion with serious discipline. His dad is a Legend and that’s facts but this is Champz’s journey, his grind, and his future. NO PRESSURE !!!,” she wrote.

Her response generated praise from many who applauded her for prioritising her son’s personal development over the pressure of fame.

Shola’s reaction came shortly after Champz released his debut project titled Champion’s Arrival on November 11. The EP, which marked his official entry into music, featured tracks like ‘Champion Montana,’ ‘Grind,’ ‘Superstar,’ ‘Champion Sound’ and ‘Champion.’

The teenager had earlier teased his debut with a viral studio clip, stirring conversations with a bold line: “Shoutout to the OGs in the game, but it’s time to pass on the baton.”

The project gained significant attention on release, rising to No. 1 on the Apple Music Nigeria Top Albums chart and earning positive feedback for its blend of rap, trap and Afroswing. Reviewers noted that Champz is intentionally crafting his own sound rather than leaning on his father’s Afrobeat legacy.
