Wike summons meeting over teargas detonated in Rivers school

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has summoned a meeting with the chairman and members of Rivers State Senior Secondary Schools Board over recent detonation of teargas in a school in the state.

A statement by Mr Wike’s spokesman, Simeon Nwakaudu, said the meeting would hold at 3 pm on Monday at the Executive Council Chamber of the Government House, Port Harcourt.

The incident of the teargas caused panic in Community Secondary School, Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt, forcing students to jump fences to avoid being caught up by the smoke.

Police in Rivers in a statement said two persons were arrested over the incident – Nicodemus Nkaparu, 18; and Darlington Sylvanus, 17.

Nkaparu told the police that he brought the canister from his house which was part of the belongings of his deceased brother who was a police officer.

“…The suspects were given administrative bail and released unconditionally and asked to return on Monday, May 27th,” police had said.

The statement from the governor’s office also said that he had sacked the management of Rivers State Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Agency.
