Wike snubs Rivers United, rewards Go Round FC

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, seem not to have forgiven Rivers United players for embarking on a protest over unpaid entitlements late last year.

Instead, the governor has turned his attention to Go Round FC, a privately owned club based in the state.

Round secured a historic promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) last season, finishing second behind Heartland in the Southern Conference of the Nigeria National League.

Just a week before the season began, the Omoku club, clinched the Super Four trophy, beating Heartland this time.

Wike, who was utterly impressed by the team’s success, has reportedly rewarded them with N50 million and a new bus.

Members of the club’s supporters club were supposedly not left out of the largesse as they got N10 million.

The governor also promised to sponsor the team to a training tour outside the country if they secure a continental ticket via the league at the end of the season.

Go Round began the new campaign on a sour note, losing 1-0 away at Wikki Tourists.
