My wife is a threat to my life, man tells court

Divorce

A 42-year-old man, Bahago Linus, on Tuesday begged an Upper Area Court in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, to dissolve his 13-year-old marriage to his wife, Aisha, for alleged irresponsible behaviour, threat to life and violence.

Linus also told the court that Aisha had failed in her duty as a wife, adding that her attitude had “killed the love he had for her and can never love her again.”

He informed the court that he had been living with Aisha for over 13 years and that the union was blessed with four children.

He alleged that the respondent was “a very violent and troublesome woman” and always threatening his life.

“She has refused to give me peace. She is in the habit of using razor to tear my clothes and package them back into the box without my knowledge.

“On daily basis, she threatens my life, saying she has people that will kill me in a twinkle of eyes like chicken and that chicken’s death is more significant than my death,” Linus told the court.

The petitioner also informed the court that his wife was irresponsible and had no regards for him, and disrespects him at every slight opportunity.

“For instance, I scolded my children for using stone to scratch my car paint, but instead of sympathising with me and scolding the children as a mother, rather she attacked me.

“She warned me never to beat the children again and that if I do, she will take me to any length.”

The petitioner told the court that the respondent said the car should “even kill me in an accident.”

He said that he no longer loves her and had lost interested in the marriage.

The respondent, Aisha, however, was absent in court in spite court summons issued to her.

The judge, Mr Ibrahim Shekarau, adjourned the case until February 6 for hearing and consideration of settlement.
