The Police in Ogun State have arrested a 47-year old woman, Joy Egeonu, for allegedly flogging her husband’s nephew to death.
Mrs Egeonu, a resident of Opeilu, Agbado, was said to have beaten the 11-year-old boy to death after accusing him of stealing N6,500.
The case was reported at Agbado Divisional headquarters by the deceased’s mother, Ijeoma Egeonu.
Ijeoma said the incident occurred on February 3, 2019 and that Joy had quickly buried the corpse at Ifo.
On interrogation, Joy said she suspected that the boy, Chibuike Egeonu, stole her money, which led her to flog him to coma.
She insisted that the boy died while being rushed to the hospital.
It was later discovered that the said money was taken by her husband.
Ogun police commissioner, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.
The suspect’s husband will also be arrested for allegedly assisting in covertly burying the corpse, Mr Iliyasu said.
