Shola Ogudu, the mother of singer Wizkid’s first son, Boluwatife Balogun, has explained why the young artiste known as Champz is not accepting live show invitations at this time.
Ogudu said the decision is based on Champz’s age and the need to focus on his development rather than public performances. She thanked fans and event organisers for the interest shown in her son since the release of his debut project.
“Due to his age, we’re prioritising development over live performances for now, and have had to decline show bookings. We truly appreciate the interest and understanding,” she wrote.
Champz, who is 14, recently gained attention following the release of his debut extended play titled Champion’s Arrival. The five track project was released in November and recorded strong early success.
The EP debuted at number one on the Apple Music Nigeria Top Albums chart within hours of its release, making Champz one of the youngest artists to achieve that milestone. The project also performed well on streaming platforms, crossing one million Spotify listeners and attracting millions of streams across platforms within a short period.
Reacting to the reception of the project, Champz expressed gratitude for the support and described the experience as motivating. He said the response to his music has encouraged him to keep working and improving.
