Kris Asimonye, wife of comedian Bovi Ugboma, has explained why her husband advised her not to change her last name after marriage.
In a post on Instagram, Kris said Bovi encouraged her to retain her maiden name when they got married in 2009.
“When I got married, my husband encouraged me not to change my last name. At the time, I did not fully understand why.
“Now that I’m building Kris Asimonye as a brand, I understand completely.”
She said she now appreciates his decision as she continues to grow her personal brand under her maiden name.
Bovi and Kris got married on September 19, 2009, and have three children together. Over the years, they have shared moments from their family life publicly.
Kris is an entrepreneur with interests in fashion and business. In January 2022, she spoke about surviving a ruptured ectopic pregnancy and undergoing surgery. She later expressed gratitude to her husband for standing by her during the period.
Bovi, who hails from Benin City, studied Theatre Arts at Delta State University. He has built a career in stand up comedy, film and television, and is regarded as one of Nigeria’s prominent comedians.
