The management of Kano Zoological Garden says it has deployed a team of experts to capture the escaped lion which is said to still be within the garden.

The zoo’s managing director, Saidu Gwadabe, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday that its experts have been armed with necessary weapons to ensure the success of the operation as well as the safety of their lives and residents of the area.

The lion was said to have escaped around 9 pm on Saturday when rangers were trying to put it back to its cage after returning from the national agricultural show which took place in Nasarawa State.

Mr Gwadabe, however, said the team would do everything possible to capture the escaped animal alive.

“We don’t want to kill the lion unless it becomes the last option as they can shot it to make it unconscious,” he said.

Gwadabe added that the operation was suspended on Saturday night around 11 pm for safety reasons in the dark location where the lion was said to be hiding.

He, however, expressed hope that the operation would be successful as the lion had not harmed anyone.
